The Tent of Witness
was with our fathers in the desert
as who he commanded
spoke to Moses
to make it according to the pattern,
which he saw
and having received it (the tent)
our fathers brought it in
with Joshua
in the dispossession of the nations
whom God forced out
from before our fathers,
until the days of David:
he found favour
before God
and he asked to find
a dwelling place
for the house of Jacob.
Still Solomon built a house for him.
But the Most High
does not dwell in (houses)
made by human hands,
as the prophet says:
‘Heaven is my throne,
and the earth a footstool for my feet.
What kind of house do you build for me?
says the Lord
or what is the place of my rest?
Did not my hand make all these things?’1
Stiff-necked
and uncircumcised in hearts and ears-
you constantly fight against the Holy Spirit,
– as your fathers did
you too.
Which of the prophets
did not your fathers persecute?
And they killed those who announced beforehand
the coming of the righteous one,
who now you have betrayed and murdered,
you who received the law decreed by angels
and did not keep it.

O Lord Jesus Christ,
stay beside me to defend me,
within me to guide me,
before me to lead me,
and above me to bless me,
that with you and in you,
I may live, and move and have my being,
for ever and ever.
